What are you chasing?

Everyday, we are chasing something. Think about that for a moment. From the time I wake up until I lay down at night I am... chasing the kids, chasing the clock, chasing things at work, chasing destinations, and the list could go on and on. If I am not purposeful, I will let the day go by without chasing the "one thing" that brings joy, a calm spirit, fulfillment, and hope into my life... the Presence of God.

I heard a statement made one time that goes like this, "If the enemy can't get you to take your foot off of the gas pedal, he will get you to slam it to the floor." I know I can relate to that. If I don't give thought to the Presence of God, the day will close and an opportunity will be lost... an opportunity to invite His presence into my day, an opportunity to be sensitive to His voice, and an opportunity to see and to impact someone's life with the good news of Christ.

Benaiah was someone who was chasing a specific goal. He wanted to be noticed by David, the man who he was applying for the job of bodyguard with. He wanted it so bad that he was willing to go to the extreme measure of "chasing a lion into a pit on a snowy day" (2 Sam 23:20 NLT). His story is told in the opening chapters of the book we are focusing on this month, "Chasing the Lion" by Mark Batterson.

Let me ask you a question: "How desperate are you for God to be in control of your life?" There are things you will be required to do, things you must be willing to chase. It may not be chasing a lion into a pit on a snowy day, but when I become desperate for the presence of God in my life, I will chase after Him however and wherever I need to.

What are you chasing today?
